Hi everyone
Thanks for the Poll Feedback saying these would be slightly better suited to a Tuesday morning -
(Monday’s hectic, let’s face it)…
I follow this guy on instagram, Thomas Lelu, whose grid post about the days of the week I feel seriously ring true:
Did You Know 💡
… you can access my whoooole library of Quick Back-to-Work / Returnity tips.
These include things like…
And so much more:
Ok so I am poooooorly 🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧 (sinus infection, which I never, ever had before I had kids, but now have all the time? Anyone have a medical explanation for this?!?) …
But of course, I still have to Work / Mum 🥴 so let’s talk about:
3 things that can help poorlymummingworking
It’s not easy.
1. If you’re employed - TAKE. THE. SICK. DAY.
The kids are hard work - mentally, physically and emotionally. Lugging carseats, prams and highchairs when you’re a snotfactory is shattering 😓.
As they are in childcare, you have an opportunity to take care of yourself. You are legally entitled to sick days from your paid job, so take them. You won’t regret it (and people notice less than you think).
Powering through makes you sicker for longer. No brainer.
2. If you’re self-employed - do whatever you can to TAKE. THE. SICK. DAY.
It’s easier said than done to take the sick day when your income depends on you working and it’s hard enough as it is to justify '“days off” 🙄 -
BUT here are some things that help me.
Do the “paracetamol test”…
If you can work without taking paracetamol, do the half day / just do external facing or client bitsnbobs / plan out what is reasonable for the day.
If you can’t work without the paracetamol - that’s your cue to take the sick day.
And of course, don't let the mumguilt/womanguilt/workguilt stop you from taking the sick day, because as I’ve already said… powering through makes you sicker for longer.
3.If you’re on a Mumming Day when you’re sick (and your partner can’t sub you / you’re solo)
Yep it’s a toughie. I really feel you 😭.
My best advice for this is to take the easy route wherever posible👌.
Plan A: try to stay at home (out and about is unpredictable, which is not what you need when you’re sick). Plan B: garden, and Plan C if you don’t have a garden then try and find something indoors but low key from busytoddler. She’s a genius.
If they’d be happy watching Frozen / Blippi / BatWheels / SuperKitties / Bluey / Paw Patrol / CocoMelon all day, let them.
If they want fishfingers for breakfast lunch and dinner, let them.
I can’t remember which wise bloke I spoke to said “If mum falls down, everyone falls down” - but goodness me no truer words were spoken.

All of this is *excellent* advice. Also - I get all the sinus infections too - why? I've also recently had the joy of an ear infection which made me vomit. Turns out my toddler is very gentle and caring when looking after a vomiting mum 🤮🤣
